Every summer when I was growing up we would have family picnics with my mom's family. We loved getting together with our cousins and of course loved all the picnic food. My favorite thing we just called grandma's picnic cake. Until I grew up and asked for the recipe I don't think I ever had this cake except on a picnic. I hope she won't mind me sharing. It is really yummy.
Grandma J's Picnic Cake
1/2 cup margarine
1/2 cup oil
1 3/4 cup sugar
2 eggs
2 cups grated zucchini
2 1/2 cups flour
1 tsp vanilla
1/2 cup sour or buttermilk
4 Tbsp cocoa
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp salt
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
Combine all ingredients. Put in 9x11" greased and floured pan. Sprinkle with a topping of 3/4 cup each: brown sugar, chocolate chips, and chopped nuts. Bake at 350 for 45-50 minutes.

Spring Break Round Up
The kids are back in school today and after I finally made it to the gym this morning I am in the middle of load after load of laundry. We didn't go anywhere for spring break this year, just relaxed at home. I took the kids to see "Horton Hears a Who" one day and they spent time with their friends. They begged to put the pool up, but I didn't give in to that one, It is still March and I am not ready for the headache of taking care of it. So, instead they settled for the sprinkler under the trampoline.
Friday night Dave took the boys on the father/son campout. Brett loved it! said it was "triple the fun". Ty was a little disappointed that he didn't catch a fish. Bryce and Ty put up the tent all on their own. They came home dirty and stinky, I think that means the campout was a success.
Paige and I had a girls night out with some friends. We went to dinner at Chile's and rented a movie. Paige had a fun night with no boys, but was bored well before they arrived home Saturday morning.

Brett quote of the day
Well, 2 actually.
"I am randomly going down the slide."
"The kids keep randomly playing with MY webkinz."

Flat out funny

I got a haircut this morning and the stylist flat ironed my hair, as you can see. My family has been laughing at me all morning. They say it makes me look like my mom and sisters. (Should they be offended or should I?) I don't think it looks bad, but as I never spend a lot of time on my hair it will be curly again tomorrow. I am not one who needs to have hair and make up done to go to the grocery store. I really don't see the point. But, then again because I rarely do these things I am not very good at them. So, even for nice occasions I spend minimal time on the hair and make up. Thankfully, I have a husband who doesn't mind a bit!

Brett quote of the day
"I want a pool party when I turn 6."
"Brett it is too cold on your birthday for a pool party."
"Then when I turn 7?"
