Brett quote of the day

I sat Brett down to make a birthday card for a friend. I wrote "Happy Birthday Matthew" for him to copy. When I came back to check on him, this is what he had written:
"Happy Birthday Matthew
From: Brett
To: Matthew
hope you get lots of stuff"
So cute, I almost wanted to keep the card for myself.

Math Lesson

Dave gave the kids a math lesson this afternoon. They were talking about how many days until we leave on vacation, how far it is, how long it takes to get there, etc. This led to talking about how long it would take to walk there. The figured out how many miles per hour and hours in a day they would have to walk. If they walked 3 miles an hour, for 11 hours a day they could get there just in time to come back home!

Summer is here!

School is out! The pool is up. The kids already have their first sunburns of the season (unfortunately). They talk about our upcoming trip on an hourly basis. They want to know who can come play, where can they sleepover, what can we do, when are we leaving, where are the snacks, how late can we stay up, why do we have to do chores, what can we do today that is FUN!? So, we will be checking out the free summer movies. I am trying to talk them into the summer reading program at the library. I am sure we will make a few trips to the water park. Thank goodness for that backyard pool, it is a lifesaver when they are bored and I am not in the mood for entertaining. How are you keeping busy this summer?

Week in review: busy, busy, busy

Friday: Bryce had a scout campout, Ty had pack meeting, and Brett had preschool graduation. Brett was one of only 2 kids who read more than one word. He read 3-4 sentences and did great!

Saturday: Paige invited her friends over for a groovy, craft party. They made tie-dye shirts, shrinky dinks, and pet rocks. They also played a few rounds of twister.

Sunday: Bryce attended his first Sunday Evening Discussion. Too bad it was a seminary scripture chase and he was pretty bored.

Monday: Ty had field day at school. He was a little worried about the races, because he fell off a stool on Sunday and hurt his leg alittle, but he was fine. He of course loved the sponge race, which was great for cooling off!

Tuesday: Paige had field day. It was even hotter and the water felt even better! That night Ty went to band night and decided on the alto sax (anyone know where I can get a good, used one???), and I actually made it to the gym.

Wednesday: Was a slow day with Dave and Bryce going to stake priesthood meeting and everyone else coming with me to Young Women.

Thursday: Paige had awards day and received an award for getting on the honor roll all year! Also, this was Brett's last official Playgroup day. It was a little anticlimatic, as everyone is as busy as us with the end of school. But, I had a nice visit with Lindsay and Melinda, got to see the cute new baby, Jackson, and Brett played with his buddy Ethan

Friday: This morning was Ty's awards and he received an award for third place in the science fair. After the ceremony Brett helped me tear down the pto bulletin board.

Brett is sure glad we are done with our trips to the elementary school this week. He is super excited for next year when he gets to participate! I think I need a break. Maybe I will hire my new babysitter and Dave and I will go see "Indiana Jones" tonight.

Paige quote of the day

Paige was questioning why Bryce got to do something she didn't (mostly staying up late) tonight. I told her she could do things like that when she was a little older. She said, "Yeah, but it's not fair, he gets to do it alot longer!"

Blowing his horn

Bryce had his spring concert on Tuesday night. He is completing his first year as a trumpet player. He has loved all the fun songs they played this year and especially loves the little "pep" band tunes, which we hear alot of at home. Brett's favorite song from the concert was "Star Wars". Ty is thinking about band for next year. He is not sure what he wants to play. Today he says maybe saxophone or trombone.
